Penang, Malaysia (11/09/2019) – World Seafood Congress (WSC) is an annual international congress. This year, WSC held in Asia for the first time. WSC 2019 took place in Setia SPICE Convention Centre, Penang, Malaysia. Attended by a total of 350 delegates with 11 keynote speakers and 40 exhibitors from the international seafood industry and research fraternity, WSC brought the theme “Seafood Supply Chains of the Future”. The congress is supported by the Penang State Government and Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB).
On this occasion, one of the keynote speakers was Mr. M. Novi Saputra, Marketing Director of KML Food. He initiated to increase the awareness and effort in maintaining the seafood quality and how to avoid post-harvest and nutritional loss. He was presenting about “Challenge of Seafood Industry to Avoid Post-Harvest Loss and Provide Quality Protein for the People”.
As he explained food supply plays important role in the seafood supply chain. Besides the needs for technology to maintain and increase the food production, the reduction of food loss after harvesting is needed. He emphasized that the main loss of seafood nutritional quality is due to long distance transportation and high temperature, especially in tropical region. Processing technology plays an important role in maintaining post-harvest and nutritional quality of seafood.
